New Book – "Na megdan za tatkovinata”

(Vecer, 10.05.2010) – “Na megdan za tatkovinata,” Rade Siljan’s latest book of poetry, was promoted at the Art Galery in Veles within the ceremonies marking the World Day of the Book and Copyright. Siljan’s book, a selection of his 35-year work, was promoted by Macedonian renowned critic and author Paskal Gilevski.

Lecture on Mariovo in Prilep

(Vest, 04.05.2010) - “Mariovo-Culture, History, Traditions, Legends” is the title of the lecture, which is to be delivered in Prilep library “Borka Taleski” on Tuesday evening at 19,30h. Journalist, author and researcher Trenco Dimitrioski will make an overview of the culture and history of Mariovo through the remains of material culture, historic data and a number of traditions and legends.

Monograph Dedicated to Borko Lazeski

(Dnevnik, 22.03.2010) – A monograph dedicated to the Macedonian distinguished artist Borko Lazeski has been published by Borka Taleski City Library in Prilep. The publication is dedicated to the Prilep-born prolific opus to mark 90 years since Lazeski’s birth and has been supported by the Science and Art Society, Institute of Protection of Monuments and Museum in Prilep and the Ministry of Culture.

Promotion of Strip Magazine “Syndrome”

(Vest, 04.03.2010) - First issue of strip magazine “Syndrome” will be promoted in bookstore “Ikona” on Thursday evening at 20,00h. “Syndrome” is a promotional strip magazine of Internet forum “MakStripovi” (www.makstripovi.com.mk). The four strips presented in the magazine are created by domestic authors.

Novel “The Grandmother” by Bozena Nemcova in Macedonian Language

(MIA, 02.03.2010) - “Makedonska Rec” has published novel “The Grandmother” by Czech author Bozena Nemcova, translated by Donka Rus and Jasminka Delova Siljanova. Nemcova (1820-1862) is considered the founder of new Czech prose. Born in Vienna and raised in the Czech Republic, her writing is largely influenced by her grandmother Magdalena Novotna. Nemcova’s works are inspired by the life of the simple, common people, whereas destinies of the brave women, but deprived of their rights are frequent topics.

(Vecer, 23.02.2010) – A book, "Essays in Sociology of Culture” by Antoanela Petkovska, Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje has recently been published. As the title implies, Petkovska contemplates the following questions, dilemmas and challenges: How much are we able to overcome or develop the basic concepts through which we think the reality and relate to it? What are the reasons for the mankind having developed in the direction we know? How much is our cultural and local identity “guilty” for the characteristics of the cultural capital we possess?, and others. Prof. Dr. Ivan Dzeparovski and Prof. Dr. Dimitar Mircev are the reviewers of the book.

New Book – Ivanova’s Linguistic

(Vecer, 11.02.2010) – “Olga Ivanova’s Linguistic Works” by Vasil Drvosanov has been published recently. The book is dedicated to Olga Ivanova, the first Ph.D. of Macedonian onomastics in Macedonia “credited for clarification of thousands of Macedonian toponyms and antroponyms.”

Monograph Dedicated to Danka Firfova, First Female Opera Singer

(Vecer, 08.02.2010) – A monograph, “Danka Firfova – Life Dedicated to Music” by Mirjana Pavlovska Sulajkovska has been published and promoted in Skopje. The monograph is dedicated to the first female educated opera singer in Macedonia. Firfova was an artist that belonged to the first generation of educated musicians and one of the founders of the Macedonian music culture after the World War II.

Makedonska Rech Publishes “Moskoviada” by Andrukhovych in Macedonian

(www.culture.in.mk, 08.02.2010) - Makedonska Rech has recently published a novel by the Ukrainian controversial author Yuri Andrukhovych, “Moskoviada,” translated from Ukrainian by Lilia Grigoryan and Pantelej Kondratjuk. “Moskoviada” is a post-modern prose, a novel of fear and chaos. This novel reflects the outset of the Soviet Union, diverse underground of the Moscow regime – social, political and artistic. The novel is a vehement transition grotesque about death of the individual, feeling of national loss and reconsideration of identity.

The magazine gives a portrait of opera diva Milka Eftimova, focuses on all theatre festivals in the country, interviews director of the Children and Youth Theatre Ljubomir Cadikovski, as well as Macedonia’s best actor Nikola Ristanovski. Exquisite Edition – Book on Macedonia in Germany, Austria, Switzerland

(Vecer, 15.12.2009) – A new exquisite book on Macedonia will be sold in renowned bookstores in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, it was announced yesterday at the promotion of “Macedonia” by a German journalist couple, Doris and Jurgen Sickmeier. The exclusive book is illustrated with around 200 photographs out of 800 photographs the Sickmeiers took during their four-month residence in Macedonia. “First, I saw Macedonia as a tourist. Interestingly, Western culture encounters the Balkans here. I delight at the Macedonian cuisine, Mavrovo, Zrze, Galicica,” Jurgen said.

Monograph on Theatre at Stobi in Preparation

(Utrinski vesnik, 09.12.2009) – Archaeologist Elizabeth Gebhard of the University in Edinburgh has visited Stobi on two occasions this year. In the 1970s, Gebhard was a part of a team led by prominent James Wiseman within a few year-long US-Yugoslav research project also involving Stobi.

Makedonska Rech Publishes Dimitar Pandev's New Novel

(Vecer, 09.12.2009) – Makedonska Rech in Skopje has published ”Travel through Tales” by Dimitar Pandev, a novel consisting of two stories, “On the First War Line" and “Everything for Control of Ties.” In thematic and style terms, the novel is continuing the author’s previous book of stories located in the area og his childhood – Ohrid. The new novel offers two readable texts covering two hot topics from two not very distant pasts. They can be read as history, novels or multiple experiences with a single possibility to become allegory if they do not remain what they fundamentally are – only stories about memories and nothing else.

Promotion of Three Books by Macedonian Authors from Albania

(MIA, 04.12.2009) - Publishing house "Bata Press" has issued three books by Macedonian authors from Albania. These are "Prespa Beauty" by Spase Mazenkovski, "Macedonian Gorani in Albania" by Mehmet Hoxha and "Macedonians in Albania" by journalist Eftim Mitrevski. The books' publishing was supported by the Ministry of Culture, in the framework of the 2009 National Publishing Program.

New Book – Modern Saint by Frosina Naumovska

(Vecer, 06.07.2010) – A first book of poetry, “Modern Saint” by Frosina Naumovska, a young poetess, director and the winner of Karamanov Award for the best unpublished book in 2006, has been published by Makavej in Skopje. Author Goce Smilevski says Naumovska’s poetry has “its strong world viewpoints and interests as part of a new generation of poets, bringing novelties and different aspects while creating the Macedonian poetry.”

“Guard” by Milovan Stefanovski

(Vecer, 06.07.2010) – A novel, “Guard” by Milovan Stefanovski has been published by Tabernakul in Skopje. Stefanovski’s fourth novel is set in Italy and Macedonia, a time span of only one month in 1983. Stefanovski is presented in anthologies and selections of Macedonian poetry, and his poems, stories and novels have been translated in several languages.

First Issue of “Stremez” for 2010

(www.culture.in.mk, 07.06.2010) – The first two-issue of Stremez magazine for literature, art and culture for 2010 has been published by Marko Cepenkov Culture Centre in Prilep. The magazine brings a poem by Ljubomir Levcev, essays and reviews by Sande Stojceski, Ekaterina Josifova, Jovica Tasevski Eternijan, and Senka Apostoloska, as well as translation of Slovenian modern poetry by Januska Gostoncek, Eva Kokalj, Klaudija Zbricajnik, Joze Volaric. The issue also presents poems by Senda Beganovic, Lee Jang Lee, Michael Berch, Roger Humes, and prose by Biljana Stamova, Ilo V. Gajtanoski and Ernest Hemingway.

Two-Volume “Don Quixote” Published in Macedonian

(Utrinski vesnik, 12.05.2010) – Begemot Publisher in Skopje has published the first complete, two-volume translation from Spanish of the immortal “Don Quicxote” with the support of the Embassy of Spain in Skopje. “Don Quixote” is a multilayered novel with numerous meanings and as many interpretations.
