Balkan Festival of Folk Songs and Dances Begins in Ohrid
Festivals : 

(MIA, 06.07.2010) - A parade of participants at Ohrid streets will mark Tuesday the start of the 49th edition of Balkan Festival of Folk Songs and Dances, including 12 ensembles and cultural-artistic clubs from the Balkans, but also from the entire world. Festival patron, Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski will deliver an opening address, followed by an all-evening concert of national ensemble of folk dances and songs "Tanec" from Skopje. The July 6-11 program also includes performances by ensembles and cultural-artistic clubs from Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Czech Republic, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Australia.

Beauties of Macedonia through Photographs

(Dnevnik, 23.07.2010) - An exhibition of photographs, "I Love Macedonia" is opening in the Bitola Old Bazaar at 9:00 p.m. today. The show consists of photographs taken in different places of Macedonia in order to introduce its beauties. The authors are Natasa Nikolovska and Bekim Mustafa. They say this is only a part of a cycle of photographs dedicated to Macedonia they plan to present to public audiences in future.

Premiere of "Vladimir and Kosara" at Skopje Summer

(Utrinski vesnik, 23.07.2010) - "Vladimir and Kosara," a play by Zagorka Pop-Antoska Andovska, the production of the JKP Culture Centre - Montenegro, Barski Letopis Festivall and the co-production of the Skopje Summer is premiering at the Kursumli An at 8:30 p.m. today. Directed by Slobodan Milatovic, the play is adapted and translated by Ljubomir Dzurkovic.

Guitarist Petrit Ceku Performs at St. Sophia

(Utrinski vesnik, 22.07.2010) - Albanian young guitarist Petrit Ceku is performing at St. Sophia this evening within the Ohrid Summer. Ceku was born in Prizren, Kosovo in 1985 where he completed primary music school in class of Prof. Luan Sapunciu. In 2002 he moved to Zagreb where he continued his music education under Xhevdet Saatcija. Ceku was the winner of the first award of the 2003 Pan-Croatian Competition in Dubrovnik and Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists in Weimar. Numerous other awards have made Ceku impose himself as one of the leading guitar players of the young generation.

Skopje Summer with Musicians from Belgrade

(Utrinski vesnik, 20.07.2010) - Musicians Ana Sinicki - mezzo soprano and Nevena Bogunovic from Belgrade are performing at the City of Skopje Museum at 8:30 p.m. today within the Skopje Summer. Pieces by Schubert, Tarega, Bizet, Glinka, Petrov, Ukrainian, Russian and Macedonian songs and other are included in the programme.

Day of Europe at Ohrid Summer

(Utrinski vesnik, 19.07.2010) - A Day of Europe was organised in Ohrid yesterday evening within the Ohrid Summer with the EU Baroque Orchestra performing under the baton of Lars Ulrich Mortensen. Total 22 musicians from 14 countries performed a programme consisting of baroque classical compositions. - It is my pleasure to be in Ohrid again. I first came here in 1980 as a young musician.

Ninth International Antique Drama Festival Opens at Stobi on Saturday
Festivals : 

(Vecer, 15.07.2010) –The 9th Stobi 2010 International Antique Drama Festival is opening in a ceremony on the stage of the Antique Theatre at Stobi on Saturday. Theatre admirers will see seven productions performed by actors from Montenegro, Bulgaria and Macedonia by 31st July. The festival, director Zoran Ljutkov says, will be pronounced open by the Veles Mayor and Darko Stefanovski, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture. The first production is that of the Kumanovo Theatre, Anton Panov's “Pecalbari.”

Skopje Summer – Cinema Café “Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”

(Vecer, 14.07.2010) – Cooperation between the Directorate of Culture and the Manaki Film and SVRSA is continuing with film screening at the outdoor Summer Cinema at 9:00 p.m. Visitors will see animated action comedy “Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” directed by Carlos Saldanha, a film with two nominations for ANNIE and nomination for best family film award by US audience. Critics see the film as one of the funniest and most entertaining animated films in the latest season.

Russian and Kosovo Actors Awarded at Actor of Europe

(Dnevnik, 13.07.2010) – Kosovo actor Mentor Ziberaj and Russian actress Irina Evdokimova were chosen the best actors at the Actor of Europe International Theatre Festival that closed in Resen on 11th July. The festival jury awarded Ziberaj for his role in the play, "Actor in the Box," and Evdokimova was selected for her role in the music-poetry performance, "A Sad Night."

Festival “Pece Atanasovski” Begins in Dolneni

(Vest, 02.07.2010) - Roundtable on topic “Forms and Contents for Presentation and Preservation of Authentic Folklore on Balkans” marks Friday the beginning of 36th international festival of folk instruments and songs “Pece Atanasovski”. The July 2-4 festival in village Dolneni, which is the only manifestation that nurtures and preserves Macedonian folklore, brings together about 200 instrumentalists, ensembles and soloists from Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia and Slovenia.

(Vest, 01.07.2010) - Blues & Soul Festival will be held July 1-2 in summer club “Colloseum”, including the performances of Igor Stanoevski and Greek band “Nick & the Backbone” on Thursday evening at 21,00h. The star of the festival, Gregg Wright and his band, will perform on Friday at 22,00h. Wright accompanied Michael Jackson at 55 concerts during the 1984 tour.

Ohrid to Host 3rd French Film Festival
Festivals : 

(MIA, 24.06.2010) - Ohrid will host June 26-July 2 the third Festival of French Film, including the presentation of 15 films, most of which for the first time. The best film will be awarded with a “Golden Mask” award. “Bus Palladium” by Christopher Thompson will open the festival this coming Saturday, whereas “Mon petit doigt m'a dit” by Pascal Thomas, who will be presented with a life achievement award, will close the event. French Ambassador to Macedonia Jean-Claude Schlumberger told a press conference that the Ohrid festival would present the best of 2009 French cinematography.

International Student Folklore Festival

(Vecer, 23.06.2010) - The 31st international student folklore festival will be held on June 25-29, organized by cultural-artistic club “Mirce Acev”. The festival brings together folklore ensembles from Lithuania, Switzerland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Northern Cyprus and host Macedonia. Festival concerts will be held in Skopje, Kavadarci and Stip, along with visits to museums, cultural-historic monuments etc.

Prilep Theatre Tours in Stip

(www.culture.in.mk, 23.06.2010) - Prilep Theatre performance “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint Exupery, directed by Kiril Petreski, tours in Stip on Wednesday. The cast includes the Prilep Theatre ensemble, Olgica Antovska is the set designer, whereas Daniela Nastoska is the costume designer. The Prilep Theatre ensemble will open the 25th Stip Summer on July 3, with the same performance closing the Festival of Antique Drama in Stobi on July 31.

Monodrama Grand Prix for Romanian Borta

(Vest, 21.06.2010) - The grand-prix award at Bitola monodrama festival was presented Saturday to Luminita Borta from Romania, who performed “Lady Capulet” by Nina Mazur, directed by Nevena Miteva. The international jury also awarded a special diploma for best actor to Herbert Kaluza from the Cologne Theatre, who performed “The Story of My Dovecote” by Isaac Babel, directed by Johannes-Talmon-Gros.

Nine Actors at Bitola Monodrama Festival

(Vest, 16.06.2010) - The 12th edition of international monodrama festival in Bitola will open in the center of culture on Wednesday evening. Performance “Children of the Sun” with Petar Temelkovski, which is not in the official competition, opens the festival. Nine actors from Macedonia, Germany, Ukraine, Serbia, Romania, Croatia and Hungary will compete for the best actor award.

“On the Way to School” Wins “Young Onion” Documentary Award at MakeDox

(ÌIA, 14.06.2010) - Award “Young Onion” for best debut documentary achievement at the first edition of festival for creative documentary “MakeDox” is presented to Turkish documentary “On the Way to School” by Özgür Doğan and Orhan Eskiköy. “Due to its focus, excellent photography, the humor and lucidity throughout the strong story, as well as the characters in whose sincerity we believe”, says the award jury.

At 45th Vojdan Cernodrinski Macedonian Theatre Festival in Prilep – “Caucasian Chalk Circle” Wins Grand Prix

(Vecer, 11.06.2010) – Vojdan Cernodrinski Theatre in Prilep has won Grand Prix at the 45th Vojdan Cernodrinski Macedonian Theatre Festival in Prilep with its production, “Caucasian Chalk Circle” directed by Martin Kocovski. The Prilep Theatre has also won four more awards including the highest recognition presented to a director (Kocovski), choreography, music (The Foltin for music in “Caucasian Chalk Circle) and stage design (Filip Jovanoski and Julija Vojkova – Najman in the same production).

Second Frik Festival

(Utrinski vesnik, 04.06.2010) – An interactive workshop on discovering and creating own Dalari – Skopje tradition, with performance and DJ sets of Dalaristan Art Group from Germany, is opening the second Frik Festival at the Vembli Playground at 8:30 p.m. today. Established last year as a festival of short film and video art, the event is developing into a festival of modern independent stage and will take place until 19th June with the aim to move Skopje citizens towards a few interesting locations in the city.

Theatre Festival for the Deaf Opens

(Utrinski vesnik, 04.06.2010) – The stage of the Children Theatre Centre in the Skopje Old Bazaar is the venue of the First Regional Theatre Festival for Deaf People, “Sign is open,” opening today through 6th June. The festival is a part of the activities for a theatre for deaf people carried out by the Centre in collaboration with Trust Theatre in Sweden. The festival will present associations for deaf in Macedonia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Albania and Serbia. Their groups will be presented with different theatre productions, pantomime, musicals etc.

“Goblin Sketches by Pagliaccio” at Amateur Drama Festival

(www.culture.in.mk, 02.06.2010) – the Youth Drama Studio with the Marko Cepenkov Culture Centre in Prilep is taking part in the 46th Amateur Drama Festival in Prilep today with “Goblin Sketches by Pagliaccio,” a play based on Trajce Krsteski’s text and directed by Sasa Nacevski. The play is a kind of theatre of absurdness and will be presented in competition with 16 productions. The director, Nacevski will also take part in a workshop organised within the festival.

(Utrinski vesnik, 02.06.2010) – Audiences at Off Fest will be given an opportunity to plunge in the sounds of Albanian and Greek folk music this evening through specific performances of Tirana Ensemble and Savina Yannatou and her ensemble Primavera en Salonico. Tirana Ensemble was established in 1978 in capital of Albania. They perform original folk songs mainly from the region of Tirana, and their repertoire does not lack compositions from other regions in Albania and neighbouring Kosovo.

Vardan Tozija’s “One” was the best in program Short Balkan Films, whereas authors Nenad Joldeski, Nikola Matoski and Goran Ristov received the award for one-minute film.

EFA Sends Greetings to Ohrid Summer on 50th Birthday

(MIA, 03.03.2010) - The European Festivals Association (EFA) has sent a note of congratulations to Ohrid Summer on its 50th birthday. “Ohrid Summer is a valuable EFA partner. As its member since 1994, the Ohrid Summer has been contributing to the realization of EFA projects and activities”, EFA Secretary General Kathrin Deventer says in the note. The Ohrid Summer and its accomplishments are setting an example of success, the note reads, emphasizing the event’s priceless role in the promotion of Macedonian culture.

Second Total Demo Fest Starts

Gjosevska (b. 1980) graduated and took M.A. degree from the Faculty of Music Arts in Skopje under Professor Boris Romanov, where she is a Visiting Professor at the Piano Department.
