New Anthology of Macedonian Poetry in Russian Promoted

(www.culture.in.mk, 04.09.2010) - Culture Minister of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia Elizabeta Kanceska - Milevska addressed the audience today at the Macedonian book fair stand in Moscow on the promotion of "Voices by the Water," an anthology published in Russian especially for the presentation at the Moscow Fair. The event was attended by a number od Russian authors, literature admirers and Macedonian nationals living in Moscow.

Drama Theatre Performs "Alexander" in Belgrade

(Dnevnik, 06.09.2010) - Drama Theatre in Skopje is visiting Narodno Pozoriste in Belgrade on 8th September where the Skopje theatre is marking Macedonia's Independence Day with "Alexander" authored and directed by Ljubisa Georgievski, the Ambassador of Macedonia to Belgrade.

Aleksandar Stefanovski Opens Season in Renowned Theatres

(Utrinski vesnik, 02.09.2010) - Macedonian distinguished opera singer Aleksandar Stefanoski is starting a new season wiht appearances in renowned theatres at the start of this month. Upon an invitation of one of the world's best conductors, Gustaw Kuhn, Stefanovski is performing the lead role of Arnoldo in Donizzeti's "Adelia". The opera will be performed within Alto Adige Festival in Dobbiaco, at Opera Salzburg in Austria and within the ERL Festival in Tirol, Italy.

First Balkan Theatre Festival in Albania

(Utrinski vesnik, 02.09.2010) - A first Balkan Theatre Festival event is opening in Albania this evening with theatres from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina participating. According to Gezim Kame, an Albanian renowned theatre director, the event is conceived differently from the regional and international festivals.

Macedonian Pianist Dino Imeri Opens Piano Plage Festival in France

(www.culture.in.mk, 22.07.2010) - Young pianist Dino Imeri opened the Piano Plage Festival in Quistreham, France with a solo concert on 19th July. Imeri performed pieces by Schuman, Ravel, Haydn, Prokofiev and Chopiní. The festival has seen participation of pianists from several European countries including Poland, Moldova, and France. Media covering the event were fasciinated by the young talented pianist who represented our country to its best describing the concert as an event that would be long remembered in their town.

Dzidzeva's Film at Festival in Palic

(Dnevnik, 22.07.2010) - An omnibus film by female directors from five countries in the region, "Some Other Stories" is taking part in the European Film Festival in Palic, Serbia today. The Macedonian film within the omnibus, entitled "Replacement" is directed by Marija Dzidzeva and is based on a screenplay by Gjorce Stavreski. The film has been chosen within Parallels and Encounters Selection that includes about ten feature films from several European countries competing for the best film Tolerance Award.

New Book of Stories by Vasil Tocinovski Published in Croatian

(Utrinski vesnik, 21.07.2010) - A book of stories by Vasil Tocinovski, "Susacko popodne" (Drought Afternoon) has been published by the Croatian Literary Association in Rijeka. The book includes 15 stories first published in one. Their themes and motifs are universal, general human dimensions as are their characters, however the time and space insist on and bear Kvarner colours, aromas and tastes. Written in a simple and warm language, Tocinovski's stories are read with interest and excitement.

Following Montenegro – Compositions by Necak Presented in Portugal

(Vecer, 21.07.2010) – Marjan Necak, a musician composer of the National Theatre in Bitola has returned from international festivals in Portugal and Montenegro where he presented himself as an author of music for a ballet and an opera drama production. "Late last month I took part in a prestigious modern music festival in Portugal where my project, ballet "Before the Dream” was performed.

Simon Trpceski Greeted with Ovation at Sold Out Royal Albert Hall Concert

(www.culture.in.mk, 20.07.2010) - World renowned Macedonian piano virtuoso Simon Trpceski performed at one of the largest music festivals in the world, BBC, in London's Royal Albert Hall yesterday evening as the soloist of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and their chief conductor Vasily Petrenko performing Concerto no. 2 for the piano and orchestra by Rachmaninoff.

Turkish Theatre Takes Part in Croatian Festival

(Vecer, 07.07.2010) – Turkish Theatre – Skopje is taking part in the 11th Golden Lion International Chamber Theatre Festival in Umag, Croatia with “Miss Julia” based on August Strindberg’s text and directed by Aleksandar Popovski. The play has entered the official programme and will be performed on 10th July. Running through 11th July, the festival has ten plays competing for the main award. Turkish Theatre performed the premiere of “Miss Julia” last year on its 60th anniversary. A young actor’s team takes part in the play including Suzan Akbelge, Nesrin Tair and Osman Ali.

Vasilevos’s Talent Folk Ensemble Winner at International Festival in Pernik

(MIA, 06.07.2010) – Young members of Talent Folk Ensemble in Vasilevo have won the first award at the International Folk Festival of Folk Dances in Pernik, Bulgaria. Beside our ensemble, the traditional festival saw 60 folk ensembles from Serbia, Turkey, Greece, Romania and the host country. Talent performed choreography series specific for the Strumica and eastern Macedonia’s folk tradition.

International Presentation – Dimkovska’s Poetry Published in British “The Wolf”

(Vecer, 06.07.2010) – Lidija Dimkovska’s poetry translated in English by Ljubica Arsovska and Peggy Reed, has been published in the latest issue of an independent poetry magazine, “The Wolf” coming out in London. The magazine presents 25 poets from all over the world, including distinguished American poetess Anne Carson, Serbian poet Miodrag Pavlovic and British poetess Penelope Shuttle and other.

Garvanlieva’s Film at Palm Springs Festival

(Vest, 29.06.2010) - The second documentary film of director Biljana Garvanlieva “Tobacco Girl” was shown Sunday at the largest North-American international short film festival “Palm Springs Short Fest”, where laureates usually get Oscar nominations. Although a German production, funded by TV station “3Sat”, Garvanlieva’s film is the only Macedonian representative in the festival competition.

Macedonian Strip Promoted in Serbia

(Vest, 28.06.2010) - The only Macedonian strip magazine “Cross Border” was promoted in Leskovac, Serbia on Sunday. The edition, issued by the center of visual arts “Vizant”, has 176 pages including authors from Macedonia, Italy and Malaysia. “Cross Border” intends to be3come one of the leading Balkan magazines in the sphere of strip art.

Set Designer Svetozarev Rewarded in Saint Petersburg

(Vest, 28.06.2010) - Macedonian set designer Valentin Svetozarev, who works in Saint Petersburg, is among the laureates of this year’s city award for literature, architecture and art. Svetozarev and his team won the award for design of the Dostoyevsky Museum and is the only foreigner in an elite company. The setting is changed every ten years, when the space is designed by another artist. Svetozarev’s concept, which resembles a 3D film, begins with Dostoyevsky’s baptism room and ends with the death mask.

Five Macedonians at Sarajevo Talent Campus

(Vest, 25.06.2010) - Actors Dimitrija Doksevski and Jelena Jovanova, director Ivo Barum, script author Biljana Krajcevska and producer Ognen Antov will represent Macedonia at this year’s Sarajevo Talent Campus, held within the Sarajevo Film Festival (July 23-31). Sarajevo Talent Campus is a program for young film workers from Southeast Europe. The campus board has selected 64 participants from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey and Kosovo.

Macedonian “Rigoletto” in Aspendos Antique Theatre

(Vest, 23.06.2010) - The Macedonian Opera and Ballet (MOB) ensemble will perform Wednesday opera “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi at one of the greatest international summer festivals in Aspendos, Turkey. The Aspendos festival, held for the 17th year running, is supported by the General Directorate of the State Opera and Ballet and is part of the European Festivals Association.

Trajan Petrovski Translated in Azeri Language

(Vest, 22.06.2010) - Poetry selection “Death and Dream” by renowned Macedonian poet, story teller, novelist, essayist, publicist, translator and former ambassador to Turkey, Trajan Petrovski has recently been published in Baku, Azerbaijan. The collection was translated in Azeri language by professor Elcin Iskenderzade and Terane Musaeva, issued by book publishing house “Vector”. Trajan Petrovski’s poetry is part of a number of anthologies in Arab, Chinese Turkish, Russian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbian, English and Albanian languages.

Female Directors from Former Yugoslavia with Italy Premiere

Gazanfer Bajram at Turkish Art Symposium

(Vest, 14.06.2010) - Mosaic artist Gazanfer Bajram takes part for the second year running at international art symposium “Portokal Cicegi” (Orange Flower) near Istanbul, Turkey. Bajram is the symposium’s art manager, in charge of selecting European artists. They come from Italy, former Yugoslav states, Sweden, Slovakia and Germany. Macedonia is represented by painters Zarko Jakimovski and Orhan Osmani.

Macedonian Theatre in Australia – “I Love You, Across My Heart”

(Vecer, 11.06.2010) – “I Love You, Across My Heart” and “I and My Wife” and “Lupco and Three Trouble Brides” are the titles of three theatre productions that amuse Macedonians in Australia. The “culprits” for the three comedies being seen by thousands Macedonians in the emigration, are Mise Avtarovski and Slobodan Andonoski of the MTG Boomerang Theatre in Melbourne.

Days of Macedonian Film in Czech Republic

(Utrinski vesnik, 11.06.2010) – Czech city of Vsetin is the centre of the Macedonian culture on 10 to 13 June with 11 Macedonian feature films being screened in these three days within the Summer Film Marathon. A special place in this presentation of the Macedonian cinematography is given to Stole Popov and his films “Gipsy Magic,” “Tattooing,” “Happy New Year ‘49” and “The Red Horse.”

Prokopiev Takes Part in Romanian Festival

(Dnevnik, 04.06.2010) – Macedonian author Aleksandar Prokopiev is taking part in a literature festival, Days of Ovidius, occurring in Constanta, Romania through 7th June. Prokopiev will participate in reading events and discussions dedicated to modern literature. Following Romania, he will leave for Mamaya where he will take part in debated dedicated to Balkan prose.

Concert of Synthesis Ethno Band in London

(MIA, 03.06.2010) – The Synthesis, Macedonian most distinguished ethno band, is having a concert in London on 9th June. The concert in the British capital is organised after the band returns from a short tour of Canada on 3rd to 8th June. In Toronto, the Synthesis is performing to delegates and guests of the second conference on a united Macedonian Diaspora in Toronto and later in Windsor.

“Cash and Marry” Hits Ten Best Documentary List

(Utrinski vesnik, 31.05.2010) – Atanas Georgiev’s documentary “Cash and Marry” shot in the production of Zagreb’s Nucleus Film has been awarded a TV award within the Documentary Section, bestowed annually by Austrian „Knowledge Base Erwaschsenenbildung,“ a platform for education of adults. Recognitions have been given to productions promoting the values in human relations and the relations among countries.

Macedonia’s First Official Presentation at Cannes Film Market

Affirmation of Macedonian Literature in Cairo

(www.culture.in.mk, 28.05.2010) - Two new editions from the poetry work of contemporary Macedonian authors Trajan Petrovski and Branko Cvetkoski will be promoted May 28-29 in Egypt’s capital Cairo. The poetry collections are translated by contemporary Egyptian poet and former participant at the Struga Poetry Evenings, Saed Gouda. The books, published by “Nadvah Press”, will be promoted by renowned Egyptian poets, followed by a reception for our poets at the Egyptian Culture Council.

“Music Progressive Quartet” to Hold Rome Concert

(Vest, 25.05.2010) - On occasion of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius celebrations, Macedonian ensemble “Music Progressive Quartet” will hold a concert in “San Clemente” hall in Rome on Tuesday evening. The quartet, comprised of Vladimir Lazarevski on oboe, Vladimir Krstev on violin and tamburitza, Marko Videnovic on viola and Paskal Krapovski on cello, has performed in Sofia, Vienna, New York and Moscow and Skopje.
