Ohrid Summer - Violinist Schlomo Minz to Open Festival

(Vreme, 12.07.2004) - World-renowned violinist of Israeli origin Schlomo Minz will perform as soloist at the performance of Concert for violin and orchestra (Ceremonial Overture 1812, Opus 49) by Petar Ilich Tchaikovsky on Monday evening. Ramiz Melik Aslanov from Azerbaijan will conduct the Macedonian Philharmonic.
Minz comes to “Ohrid Summer” for the second time. He had his debut with the Israeli Philharmonic in 1968, conducted by Zubin Mehta. His successes afterwards enlist him among the best violinists in the world. He plays on a violin by Carlo Giuseppe Testore, made in 1696.
Several concerts will be held at Monday evening’s opening of “Ohrid Summer”. Women’s choir “Menada” from Tetovo will hold a concert in the Lapidarium at 20,00h, orchestra of folk instruments of the Macedonian Radio TV will be held at Gorna Porta, while young talents from music school “Metodi Patce” from Ohrid will perform in the yard of church “St. Sofia”.
Furthermore, Bodan Arsovski and Kokan Dimusevski Quartet will hold a concert at the same stage at 23,00h.
