Premiere of Bitola Theatre – “Hasanaginica”, Story of a Woman-Hero

Hasanaginica
(Vest, 30.07.2004) - In the framework of “Ohrid Summer”, premiere of Bitola Theatre entitled “Hasanaginica” by Ljubomir Simovic, directed by Ljupco Gjorgjievski will be held before church “St. Kliment” on Saturday evening at 21,00h. Gabriela Petrusevska plays the leading role, while Mitko Apostolovski has the role of Hasan Aga. The cast also includes Nikola Ristanovski, Boris Corevski, Joana Popovska and Sonja Mihajlova.
“Hasanaginica” is one of the most preferred literary topics, according to the Bosnian folk song with the same name. Hasanaginica, who is banished by her husband by mistake, dies from grief for her children. Ljubomir Simovic wrote the text on this topic 30 years ago, which has been adapted for the performance of the Bitola Theatre.
“The adaptation of the text is seen in the change of the character of the woman-hero through the male principle, which depicts the problem of the woman today”, director Gjorgjievski says, adding, “The interesting thing for me was the fact that a woman manages to change the social and political system with its submissiveness, in a system that requires such submissiveness, but everything seen through a contemporary aspect”.
