43rd Struga Poetry Evenings – Vasko Grasa Mura to Receive “Golden Wreath” in Skopje

(Utrinski Vesnik, 24.08.2004) - Steering Board of manifestation Struga Poetry Evenings confirmed the final version of the program of this year’s festival. Thus, three of the five festival days will be held in Skopje, and two in Ohrid.
According to the program, the symposium, which is held one day before the beginning of the festival, will be held in hotel “Kontinental” on Wednesday at 11,00h. The topic of discussion is “House. Threshold”, along with a visit to monastery “St. Pantelejmon” in village Nerezi.
The formal opening of the manifestation will occur in the Macedonian National Theatre on Thursday evening at 20,45h. This year’s laureate of the “Golden Wreath”, Portuguese poet Vasco Grasa Mura will be declared honorary member of the Macedonian Writers’ Association. The ceremony will be held in the head offices of the writers’ association at 10,00h, followed by the ceremony for poet Vladimir Buric.
The traditional meeting of poets-laureates Vasco Grasa Mura and Angelo Suarez with the journalists will be held on in hotel “Kontinental” on Thursday at noon, followed by the opening of exhibition of Portraits of Contemporaries, Statues, Drawings by Ilija Adzievski.
Promotion of anthology “Bridges of Struga”, which is a selection of poetry by young world poets, will be held in National and University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski”, followed by the formal opening of the manifestation, while the international poetic reading “Poetic Meridians” will be held in the Macedonian National Theatre.
The following two days will be spent in Ohrid. Poets will be accommodated in hotel “Inex Gorica”, where laureate Vasco Grasa Mura will meet participants and guests at this year’s festival. Ceremony for academic Ante Popovski will be held in the hotel lobby, along with a promotion of the selection of Macedonian poetry “House. Threshold”. This will be followed by the ceremony on occasion of the 100th anniversary from the birth of Pablo Neruda, a renowned poet and humanist, former winner of the “Golden Wreath”. An evening of contemporary Dutch poetry will be held in the yard of church “St. Sofia”, along with a poetic jazz happening “Night without Punctuation” in hotel “Inex Gorica”.
The traditional picnic at St. Naum’s will be held on Saturday. The day envisages a rich cultural-artistic program and declaring of the best song dedicated to the wine. Poets of edition “Pleiads” will be presented in church “St. Jovan Kaneo”, and the evening is reserved for presentation of the winners of award “Brothers Miladinovci”. Poet Petko Dabeski, who is this year’s winner of this award, will be presented in commemorative home of Grigor Prlicev, while the poetic portrait of Vasco Grasa Mura will be held in cathedral church “St. Sofia” in Ohrid.
The program will finish with two poetic mini-portraits: of Eddie Buraui from Canada and Murat Isaku from Macedonia.
On Sunday, the participants return to Skopje, where international poetic reading “Matinee” will be held in church “St. Andrea” in Matka. Ensemble of folk dances and songs “Tanec” will hold a concert at square “Macedonia” at 19,00h, followed by the international poetic meeting “Bridges” at the Stone Bridge at 21,00h, along with the formal presentation o awards “Golden Wreath” to Vasco Grasa Mura and “Bridges of Struga” to Angelo Suarez.
According to the organizers, this year’s festival will include 30 poets from Macedonia and 40 from abroad. Macedonian representatives at the festival are: Petre M. Andreevski, Petar T. Boskovski, Dimitar Basevski, Lidija Dimkovska, Radovan Pavlovski, Trajan Petrovski, Mihail Rendzov, Katica Kjulafkova, Svetlana Hristova-Jocic, Bogomil Gjuzel, Petre Bakevski, Gane Todorovski, Mateja Matevski, Branko Cvetkovski, Todor Calovski, Vele Smilevski, Milovan Stefanovski, Murat Isaku, Resul Shabani etc. The foreign poets that will arrive at the festival are: Husto Jorge Padron (Spain), Betim Muko (Albania), Sibila Petlevski (Croatia), Liliana Ursu (Romania), Arturo Korkuera (Peru), Fiona Samson (Great Britain), Eddie Buraui (Canada), Kristina Rodowska (Poland), along with poets from Azerbaijan, Russia, Greece, Ireland, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Turkey, Philippines, Israel, Italy, Latvia, India, Serbia-Montenegro, China, Sudan, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Germany, Sweden etc.
