Excitement after Announcement - Carreras to Take Part in Ohrid Summer
(Vreme, 23.12.2004) - Famous tenor Jose Carreras will perform at the Ohrid Summer 2005, according to the organizers of the festival who say the likelihood for the great opera star to participate in the festival is great and they are still negotiating with him.
“After the latest festival closed we announced that for next festival, we will try to attract a great name in the music world. We are negotiating with a few and whether it will be Carreras, we will know by the end of next month,” says Zoran Strezovski, director of the Ohrid Summer Festival.
Jose Carreras has special position in the world of music. He is a tenor who marked the 20th century together with Pavarotti and Domingo. His meteoric music career started in the prestigious opera houses such as La Scapa (“Masked Ball,” 1975), Metropolitan (“Tosca,” 1974); San Francisco Opera (Bohemian,” 1973), Vienna State Opera (Riggoleto, 1974), London Royal Opera (“Traviata,” 1974) etc..
Carreras has collaborated with the most famous conductors such as Hebert von Carayan, Claudio Abado, Lorin Maselle and others as well as prominent directors of the likes of Franco Zafirelli, Giorgio Strehler, Luigi Comecini etc. His repertoire includes more than 60 operas including his roles in “Andre Chenier,” “Bohemian,” “Tosca,” “Don Carlos,” “Carmen,” “Power of Destiny,” “Paliaci” etc.
Carreras’ discography includes more than 150 records: 50 integral opera performances, oratories, and popular and classical recitals. |
