Ohrid Summer at the Weekend – Macedonian Premiere of “Timon of Athens” by Branko Brezovac
(Vest, 05.08.2005) - After its world premiere at the Florentine Summer in Florence, “Timon of Athens” will have a Macedonian premiere at St. Kliment Ohridski Primary School at 9.00 p.m. today. The play directed by Croatian Branko Brezovac and based on Shakespeare’s play with the same title, is co-production of the Turkish Theatre, Bitola Theatre and Labaratorio Nova from Florence, Italy.
The play is about heritage, squandering, and greed told in a dramatic, Shakespearean way. Fifteen artists in the play speak three languages: Macedonian, Turkish and Italian. “All this is complex, and on the other hand simple and open,” Brezovac says. “We will all have not only nice memories from this but concrete results, that something new in the theatre sense will happen with the Italians and Turks and Bitola citizens. It is interesting to hear Bitola citizens speak Italian or Turkish. But the idea is not only this; rather, it is our attempt to find those links in life.”
The cast includes actors of the Bitola Theatre, Turkish Theatre and Labaratoria Nova. Macedonian actors include Boris Corevski, Sonja Mihajlova, Valentina Gramosli, Ivan Jercic, Suzana Brezovac Atila Klince Eljsesa Kaso, Salaetin Bilal Nesrin Tair Selin Kerim. |
