| US-Macedonian Archaeological Cooperation – Markovi Kuli at Mountain Vodno to be Researched in 2006
(Utrinski Vesnik, 15.02.2006) - Macedonian-US archeological research of site “Markovi Kuli” in the southeast part of mountain Vodno will occur in period from July 5 to 25, continuing last year’s activities aimed at revealing archaeological data on the fortress’s period of construction and its purpose. The revealed findings have been presented at a website, set up by the US partner.
The US team will be led by professor Michel Fuller, along with his wife Natalie Fuller, as well as an anthropologist, geodesist and five students from the Archeology Department within the Community College from St. Louis, Missouri.
On the Macedonian part, the team will probably be similar to last year’s one, which included the Faculty of Philosophy – Institute on Art History and Archaeology and the Skopje Museum, led by professors Viktor Lilcic and Damjan Donev, along with students.
Last year’s research occurred on the acropolis, i.e. the upper and mid terrace of the site. Archeologists found fragments from ceramic dishes, metal findings (including 38 bronze coins), jewelry, items of building constructions, as well as two spear arrows. Ivan Mikulcic carried out the initial research of site “Markovi Kuli” in the 1970s. |
