Mihail Rendzov Laureate of "Prlicev Orations" Best Poem Award

Mihail Rendzov
(MIA, 06.02.2010) - Poem "Herald" points to a new day, an apocalyptic day, which ends with optimism, because a new man is born, one of kindness, purity, to whom the Lord opens the celestial doors, said Mihail Rendzov regarding the achievement which won the 2009 best poem award within event "Prlicev Orations".

Rendzov, who first won the award 17 years ago, said late Friday he would like all people to have the virtues and the greatness of Ohrid's Homer (Grigor Prlicev).

Academician Vitomir Mitevski said in the Prlicev oration that his poetic greatness and historic significance came even more to the surface due to the fact that the poet fought for the Macedonian cause even when the country was non-existent.

"Prlicev's struggle is of current significance, but in different circumstances. We have a free country and language, although there are ones who deny this. The better we are, the more foes we will have", stressed Mitevski.

Mihail Rendzov is a renowned Macedonian poet, storyteller and translator. He is a member of the Macedonian PEN Center and the Macedonian Writers Association. Rendzov has written about 20 poetry collections, winning a number of awards.

"Prlicev Orations" remembers the life and work of the greatest Macedonian renaissance man from the 19th century, Grigor Prlicev. This year marks the 150th anniversary from Prlicev's crowning with the laurel wreath in Athens for poem "Serdarot".
