4th Edition of Kumanovo Jazz Festival - 8 Music Bands, Representing Jazz, Blues and Ethno Sound

"Foltin" from Macedonia
(Utrinski Vesnik, 26.8.2002) - This year’s edition of the Kumanovo Summer Jazz Festival will be held in place Stara Banja between August 29- September 1. The 4th Kumanovo Jazz Festival will include the participation of 8 music bands: “Foltin” and Dragan Dautovski Quartet from Macedonia, Tamara Obrovac with “Transhistria Ensemble” and Elvis Stanik Band from Croatia, “Blues Fools” from Hungary, Ana Popovik Band from the Netherlands, Primoz Grasik Quartet from Slovenia and Jovan Maljokovic with “Balkan Salsa Band” from Yugoslavia.
“We are convinced that the Kumanovo Jazz Festival has become a tradition. We all know that there is a big jazz festival in Skopje, but this festival also affirms the Macedonian jazz expression”, artistic director of Kumanovo Jazz Festival Branko Radulovik stated at the press conference on the occasion of this year’s edition. “Our idea was to gather in Kumanovo and focus on domestic bands that can freely collide with the western sound”. The program concept of this year’s edition of the Kumanovo Jazz Festival is identical with last year’s one, only change being the location. Instead of the Home of Culture, the festival will be held in Stara Banja, a renowned Kumanovo spa. “It is a space that Kumanovo people know well, and which has been abandoned in the last few years”, director of Kumanovo Jazz Festival Zoran Mihajlovski stated. “However, the association ‘For Better Kumanovo’ is working on the process of revitalisation of this object, in order to bring back its old glitter”. Stara Banja is situated at 2km from Kumanovo centre, and according to Mihajlovski is an ideal place for this type of cultural activities.
This year’s edition of the Kumanovo Jazz Festival is financed by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture.
