Struga Poetry Evenings Closed - Struga, Last Bastion of the Primordial Beauty
(Dnevnik, 01.09.2003) - Around 30 poets from every continent read their works on the bridge over the Drim in Struga yesterday evening, and Swedish poet Thomas Transtromer was handed Golden Wreath of the festival. Mostovi (Bridges) marked the closing of this year’ 14-day Struga Poetry Evenings, in which 41 poets from abroad and more than 20 home authors took part.
Poet participants of the festival will read poetry at the City of Skopje Museum today at 9.00 p.m., an accompanying event to the festival.
“Many tragic events happened in the past period and a number of guests who used ovisit and love Stuga do not come any more because of the fear from explosions and poetry mixing together. Struga Poetry Evenings may be one of the last bastions of the primordial beauty, Eftim Kletnikov, the winner of Braka Miladonovci said.
Venko Andonovski, the member of the Managing Board of the event believes the Struga Poetry Evenings necessarily needs radical refreshment and greater cooperation with the town of Struga.
“This year Struga has shown that it is at an important turning point. It found itself facing a huge change of generations which, certainly, entailed changes in the physiognomy of the festival as well. A novelty is the translation workshop where Eftim Kletnikov’s poetry was translated in six world languages. In this way, Braka Miladinovci award is internationalizing.
For Vele Smilevski, the member of the Macedonian Writers’ Association, Struga Poetry Evenings made a huge step forward by introducing the translating workshop which has given a new dimension to the whole event. |
