| Lazar Licenoski’s Home Restored
(Nova Makedonija, 27.11.2003) - Restoration of the home of Lazar Licenoski, one of the founders of Macedonian modern painting, was completed in Skopje two days ago. The visitors to the newly restored structure in a representative location in the capital had a rare opportunity to enjoy Licenoski’s visual creations, portraits and mosaics. His last mosaic was the one on the west facade of the building. Licenoski was born in Galicnik in 1901. After graduation from the School of Art in Belgrade in 1927 he organized his first exhibition. Licenoski specialized wall painting at the School of Applied Art in Paris, and between 1928 and 1941 he lived in Belgrade where he regularly took part in spring and autumn shows. After the liberation of the country he returned to Skopje. Licenoski is one of the initiators of the art life in Macedonia as the founder of an Art Gallery, Institute of Cultural and Historical Monuments, and the School of Art where he worked as a professor until his death. He was the member of the Macedonian Artists Association and its chairman in one term. Licenoski died in 1964. The restoration is a donation by IMG.
